About

From Swedish Oat Fiber to CreaNutrition

The Nordic climate provides cool summers which are high in precipitation and provide long hours of daylight during the growing and harvest season. This climate is ideal for the growth of oats, Avena sativa L. Under these conditions Swedish Oat Fiber (SOF) was founded in 1989 with a dedication to using the highest quality raw material from the Nordic countries and the exclusive production at the SOF plant on the Swedish West Coast.

Extensive clinical studies have substantiated the health benefits of oat ß-glucans in human nutrition. As it has always been of strong interest to prove the specific functional properties of OatWell oat bran, many studies have been conducted using this product as key ingredient. This has given extensive knowledge about the functional properties as well as provided substantial proof of the effects of ingesting OatWell oat bran.

The SOF technology is based on selective sourcing of the highest quality raw material and careful processing that assures production of all natural and consistent quality oat bran ingredients. Oat kernels are used as starting material in the process, which are then milled, sieved and stabilized to produce OatWell oat bran, rich in ß-glucan, with high molecular weight and viscosity. The SOF plant meets the highest possible standards for large scale food production and environmental demands and is, among others, Kosher and ISO 22000 certified.

In 2002 CreaNutrition AG was founded as a wholy owned subsidiary of SOF. CreaNutrition concentrates on keeping strong relations with the customers and developing beneficial marketing knowledge and unique application know-how. CreaNutrition is also directly involved in regulatory substantiation of health claims related to oat based foods worldwide. CreaNutrition has been at the forefront of allowed health claims  in Europe that have been approved; for example the product specific blood glucose response communication in Sweden, a cholesterol lowering claim in the Netherlands and  the generic oat based foods claim in the UK,  Sweden and Switzerland. As part of a large network, CreaNutrition seeks to support  customers in truly unique ways, from application research or product development to production capacity.
